1970 Proof Set

Description: The 1970 Proof Set was produced by the Royal Australian Mint and comprises of six coins struck to Proof quality. Five of the denominations celebrate different aspects of Australia’s wildlife with the Fifty Cent coin celebrating Captain Cook’s centenary. The 1970 Proof Set was also important in that it was the first Australian Proof Set to include a commemorative fifty cent piece.  Encased in a specially designed hard plastic slab that was sealed by ultrasonic welding, thereby securely encasing the coins and reducing the chance of damage due to exposure to the air and general mishandling. The obverse design was by Arnold Machin, the reverse design by Stuart Devlin. Please note: The coins in this 1970 Proof Set are free from toning and or significant turning. The foam case is original but in used condition. An original certificate is supplied with the set.
