1997 Proof Set

Description: The 1997 Proof Set was produced by the Royal Australian Mint and comprises of six coins struck to Proof quality. The theme for the 1997 Proof Set was a celebration of the life and times of the world-famous Australian aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. Smith set the record in 1927 for a flight from England to Australia, following up that astonishing achievement in 1928 with the world’s first transpacific flight. The Royal Australian Mint celebrated the centenary of the birth of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith with the release of a commemorative dollar coin.
